Benedykta Mackieło

Benedykta Mackieło (1 May 1893 - 1 January 2007) was probably the oldest of Poles. She was born in Torów (or Torowo Wielkie), a Lithuanian village near Vilnius which lied within Polish borders before World War II. She had lived there with her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
She arrived in Ostróda as a repatriant after World War II. There, she was one of the first workers at a local sawmill. She was married to Bronisław Mackieło for 80 years and they had two children. Interviewed on her 111th birthday, she spoke that she didn't remember World War I, but remembered World War II quite well. She also said that her marriage took place on 7 February and that the wedding celebrations lasted a whole week (which is not an uncommon practice in some rural parts of Poland).〔
She died on 1 January 2007 at the age of . She is buried at the communal cemetery in Ostróda, in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
